Old Bar is a coastal community of approximately 4389 , which includes surrounding villages, and is located 20 minutes from the city of Taree and the Manning Base Hospital. Locally, we have a seaside primary school, churches, pharmacy, supermarket, technology centre, news agency, library, butcher, hairdressers and other specialty shops and cafes. A Retirement Village and Hostel are located on a hill overlooking the township with plans for a Nursing Home. Our Bowling Club has created history in being the first club outside of the Sydney metropolitan area to win the highly prestigious title of Clubs NSW Club of the Year. In fact the club has walked away with this highly coveted title in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
The village of Old Bar is part of the picturesque Manning Valley, with beautiful beaches for swimming, surfing and fishing, all within an hour of the magnificent Barrington Tops. This is a world heritage area where it snows in winter and is a base for many out-door activities in summer. Visit Ellenborough Falls and the numerous National Parks with great bushwalking tracks . They are all within a short drive from Old Bar. Only 40 minutes south from Old Bar is the very popular tourist location of Foster/ Tuncurry and 50 minutes north of Old Bar is the larger centre of Port Macquarie. We are an hour’s flight from Sydney, with services daily.
Taree itself is a city of approximately 18,000 people and is the largest centre in the Manning Valley, with numerous primary and high schools both public and private. Taree is known for its keen interest in the arts and boasts its own Entertainment Centre which attracts many events during the year as well as very active Arts and Drama activities.
There are two shopping centres in Taree as well as many smaller shops, all of which contribute to a pleasant shopping environment.
Our doctors consult from a purpose built medical centre which we occupied in April 2005. The practice has four full time G.P’s and two part-time GP’s.
The Practice has a District of Workforce Shortage status and Area of Need for overseas trained doctors. The patient base is mixed, including retirees as well as young families; The practice offers a combination of bulk and private billing. The practice offers many services to our patients - e.g. minor procedures, suturing, cryotherapy, skin checks, shared prenatal care and we also deal with minor and occasional major emergencies as the practice is only 20 minutes from a Hospital.
The practice has a four-bay nursing area that helps us deal with any emergencies. On site services include pathology and physiotherapy.
The practice is computerised, and we are almost paperless (if that’s possible). We have a vibrant team of staff members who provide friendly, efficient and compassionate care to our patients with a commitment to ongoing education and training.
The team is made up of a Practice Manager/office administrator ,five receptionists [=3 FTE] and three Registered Nurses who share 1 full time position. The practice is accredited through AGPAL conforming to the 4th Standards but already working towards the 5th Standards.
The doctors are well supported with modern and well maintained medical equipment, including slit lamp, ultrasound, hyfrecator, defibrillator, spirometer and ECG.
We are looking for General Practitioners who value small town life but with the prospect of being very busy.
We have a waiting list of patients for at least two GP’s so you will not have to build your practice, in fact exactly the opposite. The community and the medical centre staff will welcome you and your family with open arms!
We offer competitive percentage of fees, incentives and a very supportive working environment.
Please contact Mrs Lucy Dunn for further details on firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to having you as part of our team.
